Moving in the same
direction as the changing healthcare scene, CAMPaM is helping
to set a precedent for the future of pastoral care in the healthcare
industry. CAMPaM interventions enable care-givers to provide
pastoral visits with tangible, measurable, and memorable results.
Several features built
into CAMPaM make it simple, innovative, and highly practical.
It is …
Interactive: CAMPaM is
interactive and lively, making it an easy to follow study program
available to the CPE students and chaplains.
Dynamic: Each Module
of CAMPaM is packed with learning, action, reflection, and exercises
that engage the participants and bring the material to practical
application. This whole process termed: "RAIAR," which stands
for, Reflection to Action to Information to Action to Reflection
– a process that takes you full circle in integrating Clinical
Pastoral Education and Ministry.
Flexible: The course
is divided into modules so that a schedule can be set to minimize work
disruptions. This modularized presentation schedule also allows topics
to be prioritized based on progressive learning.
Competency-based:
Participants of CAMPaM come out of each module with skills that they
can immediately use to improve their educational and job performance.
The competencies learned fulfill national and international standards
set by professional organizations such as: ACPE, NACC, APC, CAPPE,
NAJC, etc.
Accountable: CAMPaM
workshops emphasize skills rather than theory. Students will be
provided clear guidelines for using the skills and managing their time
efficiently. The participants are also encouraged to create personal
development plans and share them for the sake of accountability,
ongoing support, and personal development.
Applicable: Each
module concludes with back-home application assignments to ensure the
skills are not forgotten but utilized between sessions. Following the
guidelines provided, a chaplain/CPE student can understand the
difference they make in a matter of a few days.
CAMPaM also provides …
Spaced learning:
Although the material presented is not difficult to learn or practice,
it might require some time for one to integrate each of these into a
daily rhythm. To make this process easy and effective, the modules are
spaced over time to allow the participants to practice and integrate
the material between sessions. This also allows time to reflect and
seek clarifications in the follow up sessions.
State of the art
presentations and materials: State of the art presentations and
workbook materials make it easy to understand and work with the ideas
being presented. The workbook provides easy and practical step-by-step
applications and interventions.
Chaplain/CPE-focused
training: CAMPaM will be tailored to meet individual chaplain/CPE
student needs.
A "Ripple Effect:" As
the pastoral care staff increases its skill level through this
educational opportunity, their time on the floors increases in
quality. Chaplains who have incorporated these healing principles into
their own lives will have a positive impact on the staff, especially
those experiencing high levels of stress or anxiety. Such a healing
impact will necessarily be passed along to the patients they serve and
be appreciated by the administration.
An investment in CAMPaM
is an investment in your staff. It is also an investment in the
potentialities of the people you have chosen to be part of your
department and institution. As you give them opportunities to learn,
grow, and improve their skills through educational opportunities, they
will respond with increased commitment and performance, thereby
creating a noticeable "ripple effect."
Primary Cause of the
Ripple Effect: A cheerful, agreeable chaplain/healthcare
professional is the public face of your department and institution. A
chaplain walking onto the floor with a smile and a gentle touch,
spending quality time with a caring attitude and a focus on reducing
stress levels, will create in your institution the "ripple effect"
which will improve the felt experience of those who come there.
Ripple Effect I:
A healthier and more
centered chaplain: Chaplains who are healthy, happy, and
satisfied are incredible sources of healing and strength to all
those who meet them. This course begins by helping a person apply
healing techniques for oneself. When the spiritual care provider
thereby develops a better focus, a clearer understanding, and
increased healing energy, they are able to impart this i integral
healing to those whom they meet daily. This begins the "ripple
effect."
Ripple Effect II:
Impacting staff morale:
The healing presence of a chaplain among the clinical and
non-clinical staff will give subtle invitation to the stressed-out
staff to open up. This allows the staff to let their guard down and
entrust their anxieties and cares to your care and concern. They are
looking for a professional with a connection to ‘Upstairs’ to listen
to them. They are looking for someone to guide them through a few
minutes of spiritual silence, prayer and healing energy. They are
waiting for a professional to help bring peace into their hearts.
They know you can take it and handle it.
Ripple Effect III:
Patient satisfaction:
To be healthy you have got to live in a healthy environment. As a
pastoral care giver, you can help to provide a healthy environment
for your clinical staff to be integrally healthy. This course is
designed to help enhance the knowledge and skills of healthcare
professionals so as to make a difference in the ‘feeling and
experience’ of their clients. A healthy unit/floor with healthy
staff will invariably affect the health of the patients. And this,
too, is a part of the ripple effect.
Ripple Effect IV:
Administrative attention :
When you have a staff member who is grouchy and grumpy because of
the stress and anxiety that she or he has brought from home, she/he
will be grouchy and grumpy to the patients as well. A chaplain’s
caring presence, healing touch, and techniques for anxiety reduction
and relaxation will help that person to reduce stress levels and
bring change in the workplace. Once you have a satisfied employee,
that employee has a much better chance of satisfying the patients.
The end result of this ripple effect is not only increased patient
satisfaction, but an administration appreciative of the impact of
pastoral care and the positive energy it brings to the workplace

APC Recognition and Accreditation
CAMPaM is a program that
was developed specifically with chaplains in mind. Recognizing its
applicability and usefulness in pastoral care, the continuing
education approval committee of the Association of Professional
Chaplains approved the program for 3.2 CCEs, in effect, 32 hours of
continuing education for chaplains.
ACPE Recognition, Acceptance and Exposure
A few months ago a CAMPaM
network of chaplains and healthcare professionals was created. In four
months, the network has received several members and is still growing.
Recently, the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE.EDU)
accepted the CAMPaM network as the newest network. The details
regarding the network is displayed on the ACPE website.
NACC Recognition, Continuing Education
Approval and Support
CAMPaM has also been
approved for continuing education by the National Association of
Catholic Chaplains (32 Continuing Education Hours by NACC) for
certified chaplains and support study for its CPE students. In March,
2004, CAMPaM also received national recognition at the National
Conference of the NACC in Kansas City, where it was presented to the
general assembly. The National Association of Catholic Chaplains also
has plans to link the CAMPaM programs and its network from its
official website: http://www.nacc.org
The European Conference of
Chaplains has also expressed interest in the CAMPaM project and we are
currently in dialogue to bring its programs to that continent as well.
In addition, CAMPaM has been submitted to the Canadian Association for
Pastoral Practice Education for their approval and recognition.
We look forward to your
own institution/departments’ participation in this study program and
encourage you to take advantage of this excellent, nationally
recognized and accredited program in Complementary Alternative Methods
of Healing and Pastoral Ministry.
Blessings and Peace
